  5. Aporia is a powerful object oriented user interface for Windows 2.x and
  6. 3.0.  It lets you organize your work simply and clearly by providing a
  7. variety of advanced features that make its icon interface really work.
  8.  
  9. The heart of Aporia is the concept of tools.  A tool is not just a
  10. pretty picture, it also has enhanced abilities.  It can be dropped onto
  11. another to be run, or chained together to form a new tool.  A tool can
  12. store other tools letting you run multiple programs with one mouse
  13. click.  A tool can size and position the programs it runs.  And, tools
  14. are fully integrated into a powerful file management scheme.

  18. INSTALLING APORIA

  21. To install Aporia run the Aporia Setup program SETUPAP.EXE.  
  22. Windows 3.0 users run this program from WITHIN Windows.  
  23. If you don't understand some of the options you are given
  24. don't worry.  Setup gives you a default choice for each
  25. option.  These defaults will work fine for most users and
  26. can be changed later once you get to know Aporia better.

  28. To install Aporia from a floppy disk:
  29.  
  30. 1. Insert the Aporia distribution disk in you A drive.
  31.  
  32. 2. Run the Windows File Manager program and open a window 
  33.    listing the files on your A drive.
  34.  
  35. 3. Find the SETUPAP.EXE file in the listing double-click on it
  36.    using the LEFT mouse button.
  37.

  39. To install Aporia from a hard disk:
  40.  
  41. 1. Create a temporary directory on your hard disk.
  42.  
  43. 2. Copy all Aporia files into this temporary directory.
  44.  
  45. 2. Run the Windows File Manager program and open a window 
  46.    listing the files in the directory.
  47.  
  48. 3. Find the SETUPAP.EXE file in the listing double-click on it
  49.    using the LEFT mouse button.
  50.    
  51.  
  52. This program installs and sets up Aoria for first-time users 
  53. and for those updating from earlier versions of Aporia. 
  54.  
  55. To install Aporia under Windows 2.x run the SETUPAP.EXE program
  56. from the DOS prompt.

  60. RUNNING APORIA
  61. --------------
  62. If you choose to install Aporia as the Windows shell just run
  63. Windows as you normally do and Aporia will come up automatically.

  65. If you have not installed Aporia as the Windows shell at the 
  66. DOS prompt type: WIN APORIA<Enter>
  67.  
  68. If you want to run Aporia from within Windows double-click left on
  69. the Aporia icon in the NewTools group.

  73. TO GET ON-LINE HELP FOR APORIA
  74. ------------------------------

  76. Put the mouse cursor on the question mark icon (the Help tool) and 
  77. click twice quickly with the left mouse button. To get help on 
  78. any of the Aporia tools (icons) drag them onto the Help tool.

  82. LATE BREAKING PROGRAM INFORMATION

  85. The following useful information in not included in the user manual.
  86.  
  87. * Removing Aporia
  88. If you have made Aporia your Windows shell DO NOT remove the Aporia
  89. program files (APORIA.EXE and APLIB.EXE) from where they are installed
  90. without FIRST making Program Manager (or some other program) the shell.
  91. You can do this by editing the SYSTEM.INI file or by using the Aporia
  92. Setup program.  If Windows can not find the shell program when it runs 
  93. it will crash.

  95. * Creating your own icons with Paintbrush:
  96.   Here's an easy way to create your own icons using Paintbrush and the
  97.   Image Maker program supplied with Aporia.
  98.      1. Run both Paintbrush and Image Maker.
  99.      2. From the Paintbrush Options menu select the Image Attributes 
  100.         command and set the image size to 34 by 34 PELS.
  101.      3. From the Paintbrush File menu select the New command.
  102.      4. Draw your icon in the Paintbrush window.
  103.      5. In Image Maker select the Capture Icon command and click the mouse
  104.         over your the icon you drew in Paintbrush.
  105.      6. Your icon will appear in Image Maker and then can be saved to
  106.         an Aporia image file.
  107.    
  108. * Registered users can specify text to appear when the screen blanker
  109.   is up in place of their registration name. To do this enter the
  110.   following line in the Aporia section of your WIN.INI file:
  111.      BlankName=<text>
  112.   Where <text> is the text you want displayed. For example if you work
  113.   for Acme Scrub Brush Ltd. you could add the line:
  114.      BlankName=Acme Scrub Brush Ltd.
  115.   This feature is NOT available for unregistered users.
  116.  
  117. * There is an error in the printed manual on page 58.  If you wish to
  118.   specify a directory for your tools file in the Aporia section of 
  119.   your WIN.INI file the line to enter is "ToolDir=<path>" and not
  120.   "ToolsDir=<path>".

  152.   SETUPAP.EXE   The Setup program for Aporia. This program copies Aporia
  153.                 to your Windows directory, and for Windows 3 users
  154.                 installs a library of images and can make Aporia your
  155.                 shell (replacing the Program Manager).

  157.   APORIA.EXE    The Aporia executable program.
  158.  
  159.   APLIB.EXE     Aporia dynamic link library.

  161.   IMAGEMKR.EXE  Create Aporia icons with this tool.

  163.   APORIA.MAN*    This is the Aporia manual text. This file
  164.                 contains everything you need to use Aporia. The
  165.                 printed version, available with the $50 registration,
  166.                 is fully illustrated.

  168.   APORIA.INT    This is the tutorial section of the manual in
  169.                 Microsoft Write format.  It takes you step by step
  170.                 through the basic operation of Aporia. It is available
  171.                 online when you double-click on the Help Tool, which is
  172.                 the icon with the question mark.
